It is still pretty much the same two faults, the 7.1 does seem to have set off little lake which is set off a few miles.

Agree. Believe many of the "Little Lake" quakes are probably on China Lake itself. Lots of remote / desert...Naval Weapons testing and development. No one lives out there. But Ridgecrest, Inyokern, Trona...shaking a lot...all day long. Gotta be unnerving.

Earlier today the quakes seemed to be moderating from yesterday. The 7.1 shifting N a bit surprised me. No Seismology insights is an understatement.

Not related to quakes, but related to guns...
Howard’s liquor store shown in some of the news reports (wine bottles down;-), is about 200′ from where I lived 2010-2015. (They also sell gas and soda;-)
I literally cited nefarious activies at / around Howard’s as justification for my CA CCW. Also cited other factors... CA being a “may issue” State. It worked, got my CCW, and a renewal. Kern County Sheriff Donnie Youngblood a very strong 2A supporter!

Why did you live there? I was there from 86-01, fam left in 03.
Yes almost all the quakes have been on base. I heard reports today about the commissary roof collapsing, but think it is just he false ceiling. Well until now.
Walmart opened up this morning, now???
The quakes are on two faults, but still really all in the same area so even if the map shows a spread of 5 miles between they could still be the same mass moving. Dots are just where it started not the whole movement.
This area will be super active for a year or more. USGS lady said the last 5.0 aftershock of Landers (1995) happened in 98.

Kern county is one of the more conservative counties, so it is more shall issue.

Ridgecrest was good living. Great folks mostly. Conservative as you mention. Sheriff Donnie Yougblood strong 2A supporter. Encourages CCW.

Worked at NAWCWD. Great job. If it wasn't in CA, I'd have kept working.

Dad worked most missile systems and then left as head of range safety.

Spent most of the night working VHF/UHF and HF Emergency nets, passing message traffic for city, county, state and FEMA as well as general population due to power and phone outages in the area around the epicenter.
You guys should all get cracking and get your HAM licenses, get on the air, I'm getting old as are most of the other HAMS who were up all night (no cracks about the elderly not needing much sleep GW!:devilish:) we need more HAMs just for events like this, and they need to be younger.

Fell back into my old habit of tapping out morse code on a dino skin drum, could have been worse, could have gone all the way back to smacking a stick on a log or beating two rocks together I suppose...…...

If anyone is interested, I can supply the study materials for free for getting your Technician Class (entry level, you have to start there) and General Class (next level up, gets you on world coverage HF bands) and direct you to where you can take the exam when you are ready, just drop me a PM, with your e-mail and I will send them to you via e-mail.

I felt last night's 7/5/19 earthquake. I had just finished watching one of those paranormal investigation shows The Tennessee Wraith Chasers and decided to turn in early after it was over. Didn't get much sleep the night before. I'm almost asleep and all of a sudden the bed starts moving, aww crap what's going on. I called my sister who lives on Kyle Canyon Road and she felt it too.
My wife was at Spring Mountain Ranch for a play. She said the ground felt like there were waves under the grass. A piece of the mountain calved off. They couldn't see the piece, but heard it and saw the dust from it.
Stay safe

Heard back from everyone. Most had a bit more damage, but overall made out well.
As of now other than a few house fires (one was water heater falling over) and a few mobile homes taking major damage it appears no large structural losses in RC. China Lake has a ton of older buildings and we wont know until a few days from now. Trona?
Years ago I stated that RC could take a direct hit from a 7.0 and escape without any major damage. Didn't think it would actually happen, but thank you for proving me correct.

Quakes were dropping off a bit yesterday and the day before, yet picked up a bit today. Several 4.0+ today but moving to the northwest farther away from town.
USGS has now started to clean up the 4,5,6th and are pulling out data on microquakes that weren't picked up when they happened as there was near constant shaking (numerous quakes each minute). Over 30,000 quakes so far.

One potential death... in Nye County. Guy working under his car.
Damage to Ridgecrest is still being determined, several buildings red flagged including the movie theater which had its roof collapse.
As of a day or two ago, on base out of 1207 buildings to be looked at, at this time 118 have been looked at by Structural Engineers, 6 red flagged with significant damages, 23 flagged yellow restricted access and 89 marked green safe for entry. Some buildings date back to 1940.
Hospital reopened, library reopened Monday after cleaning up twice.
Trona got hit much harder as its construction isn't the same (many brick buildings). Water pipe broke in many places and once those were repaired it broke in others. They still don't have water.

Okay, the working under car/earthquake thing is just messed up. Now I'm going to be wondering how many more jack stands I should be using every time I climb under my vehicles. Sigh.

Well, I use two under the rear axle, four under the side rails, all 6 ton each rated because they have the wide, stable bases, and then I put ramps under all four wheels, with the drive up part of the ramps facing inwards towards each other on each side, and I leave a 3 ton floor jack up against the differential and one up against the motor mount cross member when working on mine, for that reason. Was under a car with just 4 jack stands supporting it when a mild quake hit some years back, car didn't fall, but I had to change my tidy whiteys!

Now the guy in Pahrump had his up on a bumper jack I hear, and had a couple of cinder blocks as back up...…...so he was basically asking to be pancaked.

It wont be over for years. Now most will be small <4.5, but they will continue. As for anything larger? I wouldn't be surprised if there were a 5.5 or larger sometime in the next week.

NOT including 180 buildings that are abandoned, collapsed and/or burnt.
165 properties have been inspected. Inspectors determined the following damage:

Definition
Red-Tagged - not habitable in current conditions, structure has been severely damaged to the degree that that it is too dangerous to inhabit.
Yellow-Tagged - moderately damaged to the degree that its habitability is limited, not suitable for overnight stays,
limited occupancy.

Residential
Red-Tagged:31
Yellow-Tagged: 51

Commercial
Red-Tagged: 8
Yellow-Tagged: 4
Underground Storage Fuel Tanks Red-Tagged: 4

Figures are expected to increase as additional calls for inspections are received and due to the amount of aftershocks plaguing the region.

So basically 60% of the buildings inspected have major damage.
