They usually check it to verify numbers when they receive it and log it in but it is your responsibility to make sure the gun is exactly what you are expecting. If something is not right, you can refuse the accept it.

I don't know what NFA does, but when the FFL receives the gun, they must log it in in their Acquisitions and Dispositions book. They must do it within 1 day of receiving it.

To do so, they must write the serial number and model number. They could trust what may or may not be written on the box, but to be safe it is probably better to open it and check.

Standard practice is we open them as they come in (we get over 150 packages a day from 3 different carriers and many times don't know which are transfers until we open them). We also have a legal requirement to verify the make, model, and serial number of the gun as well as the shippers info within24 hrs.

In rare cases that warrant it (high dollar ($5K+) / very rare collectibles), you can arrange with us through email to leave the package unopened if you can be there the day it arrives and we can open it in front of you.
