Stores with Military Discounts

There is no way we can ever properly thank members of the US Military for all that they have done. They are certainly not paid enough for their work and their great sacrifice. Iraq and Afghanistan have been particularly tough and stressful for members of the military, their families and loved ones.

We have found stores and services doing their part to make life easier by offering discounts to active, reserve, and retired members of the US Military and their immediate family members. Please help spread the word via Facebook, Twitter and Email to those you know in the military about this resource. If you have additional suggestions please comment below and they’ll be added on an ongoing basis. For veterans of Iraq or Afghanistan, please check out IAVA. Members there are offered vouchers to many retail stores, such as JC Penney.

Two important caveats. First, some stores offer discounts only at the owner’s discretion and other discounts vary by state. Second, many stores that give a military discount don’t advertise it. It is always worth asking a store whether they have one or not and to have your military ID on you.

When Im out with my wife and we ask if they give a military discount and they reply "Only to active military" it really pisses me off. Here we have done our time and served our country with pride and instead they feel that some green horn that just passed boot camp should get it. Hell what if they end up getting dishonorably discharged. Discount for them and not for me ???? Where the hell am I???

I feel the same way. But it doesn't just stop there.

-

I did my four years honorably. But my service dates disqualified me for a CalVet loan, because I didn't have six months in by a certain date. I was a few weeks shy of that date.

And since I technically served 'between conflicts', I didn't qualify for American Legion or VFW status. Not that it really affects my lifestyle.

Apparently it doesn't matter that we signed a blank check to Uncle Sam for up to and including our lives.

Totally agree!!! Nothing more irritating than getting told no when you did your time just like tons of others but yet since you arent "active" that makes a difference...really?

When I was active duty, I couldn't afford anything anyway, so a military discount wasn't really used all that often. Stores know this, so they get to advertise a "military discount" and patriotic non-military people will give them props and business for it, but in reality, it doesn't cost them much.

When the discount gets given to all veterans, now you see that the store itself really cares about giving back to those who have served.

That's because they don't know how to differentiate.

You can not use a DD214, even with ID.

And many of us veterans do not qualify for a VA benefit card.
