My newest C&R — Walther P1

#21
Glad to help. I believe the exception for the P1 was because it is just basically an improved P38 and (as i understand it) vast majority of Walther P1 pistols were used in military and police service and therefore “collectible”
I'm not sure if I'd call the alloy frame an improvement.

No I happen to agree with damn near your entire post. Honest people stay honest and criminals by definition don’t care about the laws.
Or as Tony Soprano said, "You are who you are." Or Popeye, "I am what I am."

I had read that the CZ82 was added due to collector interest. I had not read it was just one guy. As you suggest we need to find another curator and go wild. Anyone have a friend who runs a museum?

Having a curator go for it isn't necessarily the touchstone, but it's what makes the appeal possible. I think we still got lucky on the CZ-82.

If your alloy frame P38 does not have the steel recoil lug in the frame do shoot any +p ammo, I have a alloy frame P38 marked 2/69 that does not have it, I bought it from my aunt before she passed away a few years ago for $250.
