I’m in the market for a range finder in the $100 price range. I don’t hunt so this will just be for sighting in rifles. I have zero experience with them so feel free to point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Are there any features I should be looking for or do they literally just tell you distance?

Any brands to stay away from?

At that price point, just the distance. As you go up in price there are additional features. Angle adjustment is one such feature.

Found some good reviews/info here:

So I ended up ordering this one. I don’t need any bells or whistles. I just need it for sighting in rifles and target shooting.

If anyone’s interested I’ll post my feedback.

I got a Bresser brand one a few years ago. 800 yd. range, worked as advertised, for $90.

Under $100, they're all about the same, and probably all from the same Chinese manufacturer!

Well, it tells me how far away things are so I think I'm happy.

Seriously though, as far as initial quality I'm very happy. It came with a nice case. Simple instructions. It has a rubberized exterior. It's straight forward/easy to use. I've ranged out to 150 yards with it and it's clear, 6x zoom.

All in all I'm very happy with it.

Cons: It takes some odd ball 3V battery. Not a CR123 either. It comes with one which is nice, but I'm not excited that now I've gotta find and buy spares of a different battery. All in all not a big deal though.

Picked up a vortex ranger 1000.. Buy once cry once but lifetime warranty and it feels solid and display is rasy to read in any light conditions. No issues out to 700 but havent tried it to 1000 yet. Does yards and meters if that matters with angle compensation and los.

I have the sig kilo 850. Works great. Think it goes on sale for like 129. I just use it to setup targets in the desert and range a few objects before I start calling predators.
