50 BMG Squib today!!

#1
Bought a whole bunch of belt ammo but I guess one had no powder, already shot 4 today before that round . Had to go to Home Depot to get a 1/2 wood rod and hammer it out. Wood kept breaking too. From now on I’m shaking every round. The guy that sold it to me you owe me one round lol. Good thing I watch my friend load the round instead of thinking he loaded a spent shell . That would have been bad. Bullet was a LC18/ lake city 2018

Wouldn't have been easier to hammer it from the breech side with the bolt removed?
The wood dowel would have lasted longer.

I would want to hammer it from the muzzle so as to only have to go 5" to get it out, but much like the stem of a seating die for making ammo, I'd try a cone inside the tip of the dowel to maybe keep the bullet from being too much like a wedge.

The soft wood created its own cone thank God

50bmg? this could of ended very up with at least an ambulance ride. Glad everyone is safe
Well, not until you tried to send a second round into the ass end of the first. Then it’s a very bad day. This is just an inconvenience.

You’d think the absolutely noticeable difference in recoil would let you know something is wrong.

Glad you caught it before sending another one downrange! You could try weighing those rounds since you now have the empty case and projectile for reference. Maybe not positive proof a particular round has powder or not but probably better than shaking them.

Squibs can definitely be unnerving, but I'd think this would have been a highly noticeable squib and probably pretty unlikely for you or anybody to just put another round in.

I wouldnt worry too much about future rounds, Its not like you're doing double taps or controlled pairs lol
