Alright, I’ve googled for countless hours and can’t seem to find an answer, or a link to a website still in business. I bought a Remington 30 express and about 20 shots in the stock behind the bolt has chipped pretty severely. I’d like to replace the stock but don’t want to spend $300 because that’s what the gun is worth. Does anyone know where I can find a stock? Or at least something I can slightly modify to make work? I really don’t want to have to make one myself but if I have to I will.

I'm assuming the search automatically includes stocks for US M1917 and British P14 rifles? One source is to check with the milsurp community that might have sporter stocks they've taken off of restored rifles and haven't gotten around to trying to sell yet.

Yeah the m1917/sporter was pretty much the only thing that came up at all lol I’ll dig into that a little bit more

Where is the piece that came out of the stock?
That stock, if the piece was saved, can be easily repaired, and if done correctly the repair will be nearly invisible.

Okay, so I have the piece that popped off, you talking wood glue and a clamp? I’ve never repaired a firearm before lol I can look into repairing it, I honestly didn’t even thing about that!

I can walk you thru it if you like.
There are things you can do to strengthen the stock at that point while making the repair.

I would use Acra Glad epoxy from Brownells to glue the piece back in.

Upon more detailed inspection, I chose to buy a different stock off EBay. Talked to a few guys on here and they suggested a new one as well. I’ll let y’all know if it fits when I get it😂

Timney Trigger still lists a trigger for that action, I thought they had discontinued them, I have a new 6 shot model for a project I am working on, you would need the 5 shot model because the Rem model 30 used straight bottom metal...

They are nice triggers, I have one in a .458 win mag I built on a Rem. P14 action [same as the US1917 but in 303 brit] when WWI was over Remington had so many 1917's they made a commercial model on the action.

On the action itself it says “Remington 30 express” so that’s about all I know. I bought this gun so I could reload 30-06, but its teaching me a decent amount about history and I think that’s pretty cool!
