So this isn’t supposed to look like this….

The main issue plaguing a lot of gun companies is quality control. While Taurus might get a bad rap, I've personally seen a lot of quality control issues with mainstream brands. It seems like people are quick to call it an anomaly when a more esteemed brand releases a lemon unto the public, and quick to condemn Taurus when a lemon gets through.
Smith and Wesson had a problem with "overclocked" barrels (Lemons) for like eight years when they converted some stuff back around 2010. Their overall finishing has declined a lot since just the 90s but has improves quite a bit in the last couple years from what ive seen. Theyre not better than ruger in any way at this point, they just look a little prettier and theyre a synonymous name with law enforcement at this point so you pay a little more for the branding.

Old colts were known for being "brittle", and tough to fix properly.

All companies have their faults.
I would say that it again comes down to the finishing that makes the difference. Taurus tends to let their guns go out the door "gritty". You have to shoot a S&W trigger until it feels good. You have to actually do a trigger job on most Taurus, and the metal in all the places they dont expect you to see it in the shop usually needs some deburring and cleaning up. I still think theyre a step below Ruger/s&w/colt in quality and performance. Still a gun i wouldnt worry about carrying though.

Funny enough though isnt RIA popping out some cheapy revolvers for like $300? Ive heard timing and endshake are problems to check for.

I agree with that , I have a S&W Perf Center 929 that should have way better fit & finish and better action than it does for the price. Many of the Perf Center S&W wheelguns are hugely hit & miss on what you are going to get. ...
My Performance Center 625 (about ten years ago) was the worst S&W I've ever owned. They are just a name now bought and sold by whomever wants to be in the gun business.

My 627 PC was garbage as well. Not that it didn’t work fine but there were numerous issues. Three trips back to S&W and it’s mostly fine. Whatever I carry it every day.

Anyway enough about Taurus.

What dash model are these guns? I try and keep a log of this sort of information to draw on later.

We'll see if the Taurus 94 .22 LR revolver I just picked up is "on" or "off".
It turned out to be "on"... once I bent the front sight straight again so that the rear sight wasn't all the way over to the right... I think that's a win.

Come to talk about S&W, we could talk about the 6" Model 66 I was issued as a young Deputy. Couldn't figure out why at range quals one day, my group kept drifting further off center. At least, not until I happened to look down and see how far the barrel had come unscrewed. The good thing about it was that I got a 4" barreled replacement issued!

Does something about it being a Rock FS and being .45 make it interesting?
Just surprises me because they’ve been producing the .45 1911s for a pretty long time, you’d think they’d all built like tanks. My gues would you you were just lucky and got one of the rare bad ones.

That’s my thinking too. Appears to be an mfg. defect and not the result of bad ammo or something I did. We will see. It’s in their hands so I’m sure I’ll hear back within the next few weeks

I’m sure they will take care of you. My patriot brown tac ultra in 45acp is what sold me on RIA 1911s. I have over 6,000+ rounds through that gun in the 6 or 7 years I’ve owned it, beat it to hell and back in the desert doing practice drills, plinking and teaching people the 1911, dropped it in a creek once in Utah and found it, to this day it runs like a clock and has never let me down.

I bought a nickel plated cimarron 1911 several years ago snd the nickel plating was flaking off since day one. RIA took the gun back and cut me a check for the full price and shipping I paid.

I bought a replacement one. Same gun. Same issue. They instantly cut me ANOTHER check for the full price of the second one.

Ever since then I always said I’d buy another RIA based purely on their customer service.

Well. Issue is I needed their customer service again…..so we’ll see how this comes out.
