Due to increased cost to run the forum and the high bandwidth used in FS threads, starting May 1, 2019 fees will be introduced.
We are starting out at $1 per thread with a limit of 20 items per thread, and a time limit per thread.
Threads will be automatically closed after 60 days unless you extend with another $1 fee.
To pay the fees a new menu tab will be introduced in the trading post sub forum which will be quick and easy.
Opportunities will be single thread up to 100 threads and can be paid by CC, paypal or google pay.
Buying bulk of $20 or more will automatically get you the forum supporter badge.

In addition to helping this forum continue to operate and increase features, this new set up will also increase security by preventing non members and LE from viewing what is being bought and sold.

Thank you for your understanding,
NVS staff

I must admit I found the second half of that a bit confusing. What's the $20 bulk thing and how does this stop non-members from viewing those threads? LE, of course, has their own members, so that's not an issue anyway.

So is this a serious change or is it an April Fools' thing?

Will WTB ads also require payment?

If bandwidth is an issue, would a solution be to remove the upload images feature and only allow externally hosted images? In one forum I know of, only members who pay an annual fee are allowed to upload forum-hosted images, and those are limited in total bandwidth.

Do you aqccept payment in the form of conflict diamonds or bearer bonds? If not, I'll have to move some things around on my end...

Bulk, if you know you want to have several threads over time you can buy them in bulk to prevent 10 $1 charges on your CC.
As for preventing non members and LE from viewing, we will be upgrading that part of the forum with 8 bit encryption.

Oh crap, am I an idiot?...
No, just a fool!
He deleted the posts where someone else figured it out, too, after I asked dumb questions about it, too! So you weren't the only one. He got us good. But it made me wary the rest of the day!
