Steveyb and I had agreed on a price, meeting location, and time as I was going to purchase this rifle. His SPF post on Sunday happened right after we made our deal. The day before we were to meet, I get a message from him saying his son wants the rifle, so our deal is off. No problem. I have several guns that belonged to my father that I didn't want him to sell. Family gets priority. But wouldn't you know, the guy he actually sold the rifle to started posting pictures of it yesterday on Reddit! Bottom line, be wary of any deals you might think you have with Steveyb. His feedback speaks for itself.

Link to Reddit?

Proof?

Could the guy posting on Reddit actually BE the sellers son?

If you can back up your allegations, he should be banned from the Marketplace, IMHO.

Our marketplace on this forum has always been a great place to buy and sell, and 99% of the people I have dealt with over the years have been stand up guys.

Those who bring a Backpage/Armslist/Craigslist/OfferUp type of mentality and lack of honor don't belong here, again IMHO.

Here you go.
https://www.reddit.com/r/SigSauer/comments/trml2k You don’t really want me to post our messages as well do you?
In future, it is a good idea to post an "I'll take it" to the thread, especially if you've already agreed on those details. I understand that your decision to let the seller back out may have been made under false pretenses, but these formalities exist for a reason. If you really want it, claim it.

How would go about posting “I’ll take it” on a thread the seller asked to be closed because there was no interest?

This was my initial message PM.

I was disappointed to see you pulled the ad for the 556R. I wanted to do a little more research before I made you an offer. If you’d reconsider selling it, please let me know. It’d be a nice addition to my AK collection. I’m in Henderson, I have a CCW, cash, and am free to meet at an FFL tomorrow.

Is it possible that sellers are too free to edit/manipulate their ads? Maybe the mods should look into this and make some changes.

Hard for the seller to claim there's a lack of interest if someone posts "I'll take it". As I understand it, your deal was made in the PMs before the SPF post. Seems like that was the appropriate time to claim the item. As I also understand it, you were okay with the seller backing out on the deal up until you learned it was sold to someone else.

To me, the whole dynamic would be different if you publicly claimed the item and told the seller you wanted it, rather than allowing him to back out. I don't see how moderators could have changed that sequence of events, you agreed to a deal in private, and again agreed to walk away from the deal (in private).

What changes would you propose to stop similar events from happening in the future? Personally I think the feedback rating system is designed for situations like this, and I can't think of any way to improve on it.

I think the feedback system is perfect if he feels he was wronged and he has every right to give me a negative post. But he doesn't have the right to cry like a baby and threaten me with posting additional posts.

Since the other person decided to lay his side of the story out publicly it might make sense for you to let everyone know your side as well. You can deny or confirm what he said. No need to get pissed off just clear the record and move on. I think he only said that he would share those posts when someone else questioned whether this whole thing happened or not.

I don’t know where you’re getting your information from Brian. I sent the PM I posted on Friday night to the seller. No other messages were exchanged via PM. I got a text message on Saturday morning from the seller, made an offer, seller declined, and I went on with my life. Seller then contacted me on Sunday asking if I was interested at the price I made an offer at. I said sure and we made arrangements to meet. Following day I got a message that the deal was off and again, walked away.

There was no contention on Monday when the seller backed out, and as far as I’m concerned, I did my due diligence before calling the seller out today.

Furthermore, why would I go back to a thread the seller asked to be closed and make a post stating “I’ll take it”? Did the person he sold it to post “I’ll take it”?

I don’t have any more time to devote to this. It is what it is, but situations like this should be put out community so it doesn’t continue to happen.

And Steveyb, you’re on here dressed up like Steven Tyler and you’re calling me a lady? You’ve got me rolling. Dude looks a lady!

No need to kick the Dead Horse I'm wrong the damage is done. He put his views out there he gave me a negative feedback. I'm all good with that it's not the end of the world. And it's too long to write an explanation on here. Not that it's anybody's business but like I said it's done and over with. Now all you people that want further explanations don't don't worry you're pretty little heads about it it's been taken care of. Go watch some soap operas

Yeah, when children can’t make a case or get what they want, they typically go straight to the personal attacks. You should come by sometime. You’d fit right in.

Like I said I would not want my kid going to the school you work at. Seriously Ma'am. You need some psychiatric help. You need to find another job working with people your own age.

The person he sold it to isn't the one complaining about a deal he ultimately walked away from. You made an offer on the item even though the seller had asked for the post to be closed. Clearly THAT wasn't enough to discourage you trying to buy it. It doesn't matter if you discussed the details via PM or text message, everything happened in private and you only posted your grievances publicly after you saw the same gun posted on reddit.

I just don't see any solution besides making a public claim on the item. Frankly, it is no one else's business what a seller does with his gun after a potential buyer walks away from the deal (especially when everything is negotiated in private and the deal falls through).
