Are the 9mm barrels for a 9mm specific 229, or for a .40 P229 to 9mm conversion (if they even offer that)?

I’ve shot both out of a P229 40cal pistol and they both work great. No reliability issues and accuracy was on point. If I remember correctly, you are supposed to use the slightly thicker P229-1 magazines. They are the ones made for the later P229 models and they hold 15 rounds instead of the older mags that only held 13 rounds. That’s what I did and it worked great. Also, because these are not the aftermarket conversion barrel, there is a slight gap(not as big as you would expect) around the end of the barrel and where it comes out of the slide. Lockup is 100% solid. Having said all that, I would not recommend using it in that configuration for home/self defense. Mainly because even with proper lockup and good accuracy, the ejector is still meant for the 40 round, and over the course of thousands of rounds, I’d be willing to say that the failure rate would have to be higher that a dedicated 9mm pistol. Just my opinion, but I did fire the newer one 50 rounds and the older one 300 rounds through a 40 cal P229. Hope this helps
