...I can see a can on a new synthetic stock, but would it totally ruin the vibe of a sporterized yet cherry mid-century piece?
Once sporterized, I don't think so, but definitely don't alter an original. I've been shooting through cans long enough now to see them as normal. That only took a couple years!

I don’t have any objection to leaving the thread open, but to be consistent with normal practice, @Raco and others interested in finding game rifles should probably start a new WTB for themselves. Mods of course welcome to deviate from norm and just let this be a watering hole for others like me.
