WTB Deer rifle

Getting ready to take the dive on mule deer and other medium game.

Bolt action seems to be most economical, but open to a quality lever action too. I think they'll exceed my price range though, and I'm not looking for charity.

Looking for a 243 or 308. Maybe the right deal in 270, 30-06, 300 WM, or 6.5 Creedmor.

Stock is not make-or-break, but I appreciate the nostalgia of wood. Dings and scratches don't bother me.

I have a generic 4-10 x 38 scope, but if yours is scoped, I will just sell mine off, or put it toward the transaction if you're interested.

Also open to advice, so don't hesitate to post or DM if you just want to pitch in guidance or experience.

Budget is $300-$500. I have silver bullion and/or 500 sealed rds of 5.56 I can put toward it if you trade in that realm. If it's close (like an old lever action) and I need to liquidate some silver into cash, I'm open to that.

Can't dig that Axis or any American Rifle etc. econo-rifle..a couple hundred more and get their real thing, less than that used. Season is a long way off at this point, would shop.

If I was broke, I'd do it to put meat on the table, but I'm with Fogie. Invest in an heirloom. That doesn't mean you need Grade V walnut stock, but get a good action. You can tell the difference when you cycle it. You can upgrade the glass any time, but pretty good glass is also cheaper than it used to be.

And if it isn't .30 caliber, don't come back.

Try to get a threaded barrel. Once you hunt with a suppressor, you'll never go back. Do NOT put a muzzle brake on it in the meanwhile.

Hear you loud and clear. There was a threaded Axis II on GB that I took a swing at, but was quickly outbid.
I can see a can on a new synthetic stock, but would it totally ruin the vibe of a sporterized yet cherry mid-century piece?
And good gravy, I did enough reading on brakes to know those are only for use on elephant guns.
