My thought is that by limiting the posting of ads (including WTB) to only forum supporters, the base is greatly reduced. It’s like owning a store, but restricting yourself to one wholesaler when can have greater variety by using them all.
This may be a valid opinion if we assumed the purpose of this forum was to generate the most WTS/WTB ads and facilitate the transfer of as many used guns as possible, and for the forum to generate revenue based on those sales which go though....

But it isn't. And it doesn't.

This isn't a gun store, and the number of ads in the classifieds section has no real bearing on the purpose of the forum.

Also, anybody who is in disagreement with this new policy should go try to either sell their guns to a gun shop, or through a shop on consignment. Lol. See how reasonable $20 feels then.

I couldn't imagine selling dozens of items here, or even a handful, and not gladly donating to the site. I felt guilt after just a few transactions. You can give the money anonymously if that's a concern. Think about the time and expense involved if you didn't have this site available. This site is a gift. I think it boils down to just being too lazy to get it done.

I'd be happy if I could get by a week without blowing $20 on something foolishly.

A long time ago when I was a newb on here I overpaid $20 on a gun. New bills and they stuck together. I won't say who because it was a revolver and not a Glock. He called me to come get the $20.

Guys that complain about $20 to post stuff for sale make me wonder if they'd be as good to deal with.
Glockaholic?

I feel people who have been members here and only post in the advertising section, usually to sell should pay to support the forum. They really don't contribute any other way, to them this must look like a free Arms List opportunity. I have bought here and sold here. 20 bucks is a pittance to be able to do that.

Anyhow, what I really came here to say was:

Man reading some of the responses here is just crazy….$20 freaking dollars for A YEAR ! You get your little supporter badge and full access to the buy and sell forums. Should have been done along time ago. I agree with WantaG19 ! Big whoop ! Some of you need to get a life man. Or start your own website .

Since for unknown reasons I end up approving most of the new members, maybe when I approve one who, in response to my welcome to the forum PM, comes back and tells me that they are only here to sell a gun or a couple of guns, and that after that they will be gone or not contributing to the forum, maybe I should start a thread listing those new members who fall into that category...... so potential buyers will be aware of what they are potentially dealing with.

I actually get quite a few of those each month.

Some even have gone so far as to say they don't like guns, inherited one or more and just want to be rid of them, and a couple even said they don't support the Second Amendment, don't believe anyone needs to own a gun, but figured they could get more selling the guns here than at a police department buy back!

(snipped for brevity and focus)
Maybe allow a one-time add for a lower fee, say $10? Low enough so that no reasonable person should be complaining but enough that scammers/muli-account no-goods won't be willing to pay it. My .02, worth what it costs... lol

Didn’t I read in the first post that any $20 donation would cover the fee - IE a prior supporter or a current supporter can post ads.

Hell I haven’t sold anything on here in 5+ years and I keep ponying up cash. Apparently the joke is on me.

I think you’re making fun of my status as a “New Member”.
🤣

He might be. But all in good fun.

Fact is, if there are less ads, less bandwidth, less needless photo space on the expensive server - isn't a bad thing. But if a seller is going to make money on a site that costs thousands of dollars a year to run, they should be paying what amounts to 5.5 cents per day...

The forum is a gun community with a Trading Post for members. It was never intended to be the other way around.

Their member profiles should come with an Anti 2A badge so we can tar and feather them! :ROFLMAO: …or at the very least so we know not to buy from them ;).
