Went back to work on Wednesday!

I was out 10 weeks and while it was unfortunate, I know a lot of guys out there who haven't been on a jobsite in many months.

I applied everywhere when I was out.
I sent off resumes to a lot of the casinos and hospitals looking for a job in engineering.
I put my name on the list of probably every union construction company in town.
I applied with many Non-Union construction companies.(my Spanish probably wasn't good enough)
I applied at several mines.

In the end though, I ended up getting called back to my last employer.

My sympathies go out to everybody still looking for work. I won't take my situation for granted. I know that I could easily be on the other side of the equation again at any time.

One good thing about when I was out of work....my wife gave birth to our second child on February 12. It was nice being home and being able to help out and spend so much time with my family.

I'm still job hunting and I don't qualify for unemployment. So I"ve been making web sites for people and then helping them get found on the Internet.

If you need a web site or know anyone who does, please ping me.

I'm also doing content marketing and just got a job doing some writing on cowboy mounted shooting, which is really fun!

My new web site is www.mars-west.com if you want more info on what I'm doing.

And if anyone knows of any user interface design work, (unlikely), keep me in mind.

Oooh, should also mention, I'm selling makeup online at www.MakeupDealOfTheDay.com so if you're female and wear makeup come on by...or if you're male, send your lady friends, wives, and sisters. We have great bargains there!

I called them up, they only have book 4 left and they said they haven't used book 4 in over 2 years.
Oh well.
They have pulled a hand full of people off the books to start recieving materials for the job. They are a little behind right now but they expect a large pull here in a few weeks to a month.

Hey if there are any Union Carpenters in here looking for work, Standard Drywall just started work at the airport.

Tiffiny is on their way out the door and SDI has taken over all of their contract work. They have been manning up and every day last week they had new guys in orientation. More guys will be coming Monday.

Wouldn't hurt to swing by their office and talk to somebody. PM me for the name of who you want to talk to as I'm not going to post it here for all to see.

Hello,

The company I work for is hiring. The job is installing cable for COX. We provide paid training, and are willing to work with you on required tools. Must be able to pass background check and drug screening. Must have pick-up or suv that you are willing to put a ladder rack on, as we drive our own vehicles. Must have valid licence, registration and insurance. The job involves hights and tight places at times, so you must be able to deal with both.
Once out of training, how much you make is up to you, as it is piece work pay. Most techs average around $50,000 annually but did have one hit 115,000 last year. Its a good job, but not for everyone.

I am looking for people with Audio/Visual experience for an entry level warehouse job. It is a temporary job but they usually work 40+ a week. You must be willing to work hard and stand on your feet all day. You must be a team player and able to carry 50lbs without help. I'm very picky but i am willing to look at any resumes. PM me if you are interested in checking it out.

When I get home in July I need to find some member or members who know wood working or carpentry. I want to build a small overhang over my home made patio and I'll be paying under the table type work. I want to help do stuff so don't expect me to pay your entire morgage but it'll be some cash and beer for helping me out. LMK if you know anyone please no rookies, I'll be bad enough by myself plus gotta please the wife. I'll be getting the building permit too so it's 100% legit.

As a Commercial Carpenter

I am happy to see this on the board. I have had more than my fair share of unemployment the last two years, and recently have had to take drastic measures just to keep a roof over my head. As far as I can tell, my market is entirely tapped out at the moment, and I have started to think more 'out of the box' than I ever thought I would.

I know times are tough for everybody, but here goes...

I was wondering if anyone had any leads for my fiancée. She's either been flat-out rejected, or jerked around (temp agencies) since quitting her previous job and moving out here to be with me.

She's excellent at office management, PR, financing, etc. She has vast amounts of experience in managing a road construction company (including managing people, benefits, finances, contracts, etc.).

Bachelor's degree in Communications.

A job in NW Vegas would be ideal, but she's willing to travel valley-wide as long as the pay is a bit more than gas costs.

Any info and/or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Please, contact me anytime via PM or 702-496-9424.

Thanks.

@Jerad. Have her look into any Office Manager positions with the Clark County School Dist. Hell, with a Bachelor's, she could even just substitute teach for $90 a day. All she has to do is follow a lesson plan, not even write one. CCSD is slowly filling positions, even though they are RIF'ing some. The personnel office is on Flamingo and Pecos.

Excellent idea for a thread.

Working for the State UI office I hear people every day looking for work & within my own family too.

Many shy away from Temp Services as often theare either temp or junk type jobs.

Temps can also get you work & on occasion, lead to full time work.

My daughter, really goofy...like, "oh, she really is a blond" goofy started working with a temp in Carson City awhile back at Harley Financial. Well about 3 weeks ago Harley hired her on FT. Very nice for her. Now to get my wife a job lol.

So, temps can really be good with a little luck.

I worked a crap retail job for a long time until the states employment rate went bonkers, opening many positions for people with UI. Take the crap job, you can always leave when the better one comes along.

I will follow up with any actual leads I come across.

There is a big power line job that is going to be kicking off in April that will be going from north las vegas area to Ely. You can get on the books at Local 396 IBEW. There is nowhere near enough man power to handle the job so after they clear the books there they will be taking from out of state. You can get on as a ground man (labor) with no experience and it pays about $22 an hr. If you have any experience running equipment you might be able to get on as an operator which is around $30. Perdiem is $50 a day. You will be working away from home most of the time and they will be long days and weeks. 12-16 hours a day and 6 to 7 days a week. The job should last about two years. Also a CDL will go a long way here on getting you off the books, Class A. I hope this helps
Any updates on this one, thanks in advance.

Sorry I have not updated any info on this job lately. I have been working out of state. The last I heard is the job has been pushed back a few months but they are slowly making draws from the books to get things started. I have switched companies and unions but I will stay in contact with some friends and update everyone when I hear something more.
