The funny thing is this forum isn't a democracy... When I joined I wasn't added to the shareholders of the LLC... or added to the board of trustees.
I wasn't offered a buy in to have my voice heard or earn the right to cast a ballot.
Some people actually think an opinion matters here, but the funny thing is the sight isn't owned as a collective and the owner can do what they wish...even shut it down... then what would we do?
If someone told be how to run mybuisness I'd tell them to Piss off.. end of story.
So.. my thoughts for anyone who cares or doesn't care.

A forum is much like a private playground, everyone wants to enjoy the playground, use all the amenities. However a bunch just never want to help clean up, maintain things or chip in for repairs/upgrades . Because it used to be free to them, they feel it should always remain free.
Truth is someone is paying for it. The forum owner(s).

I'm am being real. And for the record. I do like you, your a cool cat.
But I've been here waiting for work. And I've been saying no to work because of low sub-par rates.
Point is... it's my buisness and I run it how I see fit..
When one doesn't offer what I want another will step up for the services that will be provided eventually.
But life will go on either way with or without my services...
So if member of the forum can't see the value in what it has to offer then someone else would gladly pony up 20 bucks or whatever the fee is.. eventually.
Should the owner decide on whatever fees are going to work or something else needs to be done at a later time thats entirely up to them.
I also think it's gone past opinions... more like bi**hing and whining at this point ...

100% agree. Don’t forget the cost of shipping that’s also saved by selling locally. Plus, face to face transactions makes it easier to avoid scammers. Maybe those opposed to the change have never tried selling anything by any other method? I tried once to sell a gun to a local gun shop and the owner (nice guy) told me to sell privately. He had to make a profit and I would be getting a fraction of the value. My other selling experiences led me to GLADLY support this site.

The thing I think you’re missing from your original post that has become a point of contention for some members is that it comes off as passive aggressive. You used the term “forced donation” the root word being force. Using force is to coerce or compel someone to do something against their will usually by violence, but not always. That being said, becoming a forum contributor is optional and comes with the perk of posting for sale adds, it is not a “forced donation”; it’s a fee for a service in which you can choose to opt in to or not. Every other function on this forum is still free. Implying that donations are forced is passive aggressive not only to titan (the owner if I’m not mistaken) but also to those of us who have contributed to the forum because your implication is that we were forced into doing so with no free will of our own. Thats why people are chewing you out.

if gas goes to $20 a gallon, would that be a good thing in your or the others that you represent mind(s)?
Car dealer says you get a free car then one day calls n says you have to donate $5000 with the perk of being able to still use it to cover their expenses. That its still a great deal but thats probably bait and switch.
Its not a donation, its a payment or a fee. Whatever, the forum is desperate for money and needs to levy a modest fee onto the users now. Thats understandable. I still hope it goes no further.
Just dont blow smoke up my butt calling it a charitable contribution with a perk don vito.

I missed all of the back and forth that led to the decision. That's okay, I wasn't interested in the conversation and I didn't buy a seat at the table. I just didn't realize there were so many users here who felt like non-donators were freeloaders abusing the generosity of others. I also contributed to that problem, I kept telling people to come here because it was free. I'm not even opposed to paying for open use of the trading post. I have just have been rubbed the wrong way by a lot of the posts in this thread.
If gasoline went to $20 a gallon I wouldn’t be happy but I need gasoline to operate my vehicle which in return provides me with a means to provide for my family by getting to work, taking the kids to and from school, buying groceries, traveling to visit family or go on vacation, etc etc…. So I would pay, unhappily but I would pay.
Are you saying posting FS threads provides you with the same?
And if a car dealer gave me a car then said I had to donate $5,000 to still use it, I would return the car since it’s my choice to pay or not, especially if I got to use it for free for so long. Bait and switch is pretty clear, “the action (generally illegal) of advertising goods which are an apparent bargain, with the intention of substituting inferior or more expensive goods”. What we’re discussing is an optional service, when and where were you promised unlimited classified posting ?

By definition a contribution is a gift or payment to a common fund or collection bringing about a result or helping something to advance. Sounds a lot like the exact situation we find ourselves in.
